    Surveying services are performed at the initial stage of a project and at the end marking the locations of utilities and facilities for construction. Our surveyors provide quality surveys through the use of a systematic protocol and precise instrumentation.

    Surveying and mapping are the two essential building blocks in the development and design process. The success of any project large or small depends largely in part on the quality of the initial surveying and mapping studies. Taney Engineering has the extensive experience and knowledge of survey requirements for preliminary boundary and topographic surveys to construction staking and as built surveys.     Taney Engineering offers the latest software and technology for its staff to develop project designs that are accurate, efficient, and provide multi-disciplined integration for complex Building Information Modeling projects.

    Taney Engineering’s civil engineering design software includes Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite Premium, Autocad Civil 3D, and Bentley Watercad, Sewercad, and Flowmaster. Through the use of these softwares our designers are able to improve project quality, accuracy, and enhance design; automate project deliverables and reduce documentation errors; as well as accelerately design and simplify time-consuming tasks.

    Autocad Civil 3D affords our engineers and designers to take existing topographic conditions and overlay three dimensional designs to provide real-time elevations and perspectives of a project. Our engineers and designers will take an existing project site and transform it into multiple options for client consideration. All revisions are updated through data efficiency in the software therefore reducing potential for errors.

    Bentley Watercad is used by our engineers and designers for water distribution modeling analysis and design. This tool facilitates the design of new water systems and assists in managing existing water networks effectively to reduce disruption risks and energy use.

    Bentley Sewercad modeling software is used by our engineers and designers for the design and analysis of sanitary sewer systems. This tool provides easy decision-making solutions for pipe sizes and invert elevations, while meeting design restrictions using a constraint-based design of gravity pipes and structures for sanitary sewers. It further offers integration for modeling with Autocad therefore improving productivity.

    Through the use of Bentley’s Flowmaster our Hydrology/Hydraulics department specializes in the efficient and accurate process to produce hydraulic calculations for drainage and flood control projects. This software aides in calculating various element types from pipes and open channels to drop inlets and weirs.

    Drone Technology

    Drone technology benefits clients through high resolution, fast, affordable solutions for aerial imagery, design integration (with 3-D modeling), inspections of large structures/facilities, and for use in marketing.

    AUTHORIZED USE
    FAA Section 333 Exemption: Taney Engineering has received the FAA Section 333 Exemption under the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (FMRA). This exemption was awarded in October 2015 authorizing Taney Engineering to plan, operate, and execute commercial flights of unmanned aerial vehicles in the United States within the FMRA guidelines.

    UAS PLATFORM
    Multi-rotor: This platform offers easy to operate, stable, high-quality aerial photography, video, thermal or topographic imagery. This technology is useful in surveying, aerial mapping, aerial photography, live inspection of assets such as dams, water towers, bridges, etc. It can further be used in detecting pipeline leaks through thermal imaging, used to develop topographic information for 3D modeling during engineering design or used for marketing development properties through the high resolution cameras for photography or videos. This platform offers high-definition photography or video footage that facilitates understanding and decision-making.

  • Accuracy: The accuracy meets or exceeds accuracy of imagery captured using conventional fixed-wing aircraft. The Relative Orthomosaic/3D model accuracy is less than 1 inch and absolute horizontal/vertical accuracy is down to 1 inch.
    Cost: The cost savings of drone use is of benefit to any project. Drone use provide data acquisition in a fraction of the time with a fraction of the personnel and an UAS drone is more cost effective than deploying a traditional manned aircraft. Drone use in tandem with traditional methods can reduce acquisition times and they are mobilized instantly with ZERO emissions, environmental impact, or carbon footprint.

    Construction Administration

    NORTH DAKOTA ONLY – Serving as the client representative through Construction Administration offers clients the confidence in knowing their project is constructed as designed. As a third party service Construction Administration oversight benefits the success of a project during construction through another set of eyes ensuring a higher level of quality.
    Taney Engineering offers construction administration services and inspections for clients’ projects and as a third-party to public entities for oversight of projects. Taney Engineering is NDDOT Certified and offers Construction Administration on NDDOT projects. The Taney Engineering project management protocol ensures NDDOT comprehensive project controls and reporting (daily logs/pay quantities/processing), technically qualified inspectors who are familiar with all applicable standards, codes, governing procedures, and who are experienced in civil engineering to become intimately familiar with plans, notes, special provisions, and specifications to see a project through construction completion.

    Materials Testing

    NORTH DAKOTA ONLY– Materials testing services are performed on-site or within a fully equipped a materials testing laboratory. Our qualified technicians are backed by AASHTO, ASTM, and ACI, and our laboratory is AMRL and CCRL certified.
    Taney offers certified, experienced and qualified technicians with a comprehensive knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM and NDDOT standards and specifications for materials testing services. We have a full-service testing laboratory for all your needs.
    TESTING SERVICES
    ON SITE
    Taney Engineering provides an array of field testing services including:
    Density Testing – Density tests for both Soils and Aggregates, Nuclear moisture density gauge method, Sand Core Method and Rubber Balloon Method.
    Concrete Testing – Slump Test, Air Test, Temperature Test, Unit Weight of Concrete, etc.
    Bituminous Testing – Density Test by Nuclear Method, Asphalt Coring, etc.

    LABORATORY
    Taney Engineering provides comprehensive laboratory testing and reporting services for Soils, Aggregate, Bituminous/Asphalt and Concrete.
    Soils Testing – Standard and Modified Proctors, Atterberg Limits, Sieve Analysis, etc.
    Aggregate Testing – Standard and Modified Proctors, Sieve Analysis, Light Weight Particles, Etc.
    Bituminous/Asphalt Testing – Maximum Theoretical Specific Gravity, Density of Compacted Pavement, Bulk Specific Gravity, etc.
    Concrete Testing – Compressive Strength of Cylinders, Compressive Strength of Grout Prism, Compressive Strength of Mortar Cubes, etc.

    EQUIPMENT
    All Taney Equipment is fully calibrated annually by Calibration Solutions. Taney follows the R18 Quality Manual.

    ACCREDIDATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
    Taney Engineering is certified to performed materials testing in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nevada. Our technicians and laboratory are Aggregate, Asphalt, Soils, Pavement Inspection, ACI Concrete Field Tech Level 1 Certified and our ACI S Strength Technicians are enrolled in the AMRL and CCRL proficiency sample program since December 2014. As of 2015 our laboratory is AMRL inspected and AASHTO certified. We are currently in the process of acquiring certification by the Army Corps of Engineers.

    Renewable Energy (Solar/Wind)

    Taney Engineering is a full-service civil engineering and land survey/construction staking corporation that delivers successful, bold and innovative solutions to clients in the renewable energy marketplace.

    Taney Engineering specializes in renewable energy site development. Taney Engineering’s team of civil engineers, hydrology specialists, technicians and land surveyors have completed 14 major renewable energy plant projects in the last ten years.

    Taney Engineering understands the needs of energy clients to keep costs down and protect the assets through inventive engineering for all areas of an energy project including the field, areas for on-site construction offices, operations and maintenance buildings, substations, etc. Designs include work in site planning, hydrology/hydraulics, drainage and erosion control, access roadway design, grading, generation tie-in alignments, permitting, and government entity processing and approvals. Taney will provide UAV drone aerial imaging for land surveying, a certified mobile materials testing laboratory for soils and proctor testing, and structural engineering services to support your development project.

    Taney Engineering offers full completion of entitlement packages (conditional use permits, zone changes, land use modifications, etc.) as well as assistance with the Bureau of Land Management POD process. Grading plans, fence plans, access roadways, hydrology studies, horizontal control, utility design and other design aspects of a solar or wind power field are all handled by our team of engineers and support personnel.

    The firm has kept the pace with the design needs of large scale facilities with all design and engineering personnel using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. Project managers remain sensitive to the needs of the client by assisting with quantity evaluations, quantity verifications, designing for differing grading methodologies depending on individual site conditions, and protecting the sites assets. Our projects regularly require the use of Flo 2D, HEC-1, HEC-RAS, Synthetic Unit Hydrograph and Rational Method Hydrology programs.
