OPEN POSITIONS

Land Planner

Taney Engineering, a partner firm of HFW Company, is a full-service civil engineering and land survey company.  We are a leader in land development and public works engineering, employing 65+ team members with diverse experience in commercial/industrial, energy, healthcare, public, residential and transportation engineering.  We have a fast-paced environment, with team members that encourage each other in a collaborative atmosphere. This role serves as a critical first step in the land development process, offering an opportunity to support the firm’s clients in understanding development options for their sites. Working with local municipalities, the Land Planner serves as an entitlement specialist, guiding clients through the entire process, including research and due diligence, site planning, preparation of plans, and public representation of land entitlements. Public speaking at community or board meetings is a requirement.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment, stay organized, possess excellent multitasking skills, and be able to generate planning documents with the technical precision required by an engineering firm. Applicants should be familiar with land development concepts and proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Municipal code and zoning ordinance research and translation into planning documents.

  • Working with surveyors and civil engineers to aid in site planning

  • Coordinate with and facilitate communication on behalf of Taney Engineering with clients and governing entities.

  • Manage simultaneous projects amongst cross-disciplined teams with competing priorities.

  • Develop planning documents and exhibits, including maps, reports, letters, comprehensive and local plan packages, and presentation materials.

  • Prepare presentation materials for community or board meetings.

  • Collaborate with existing staff to prepare entitlement packages for submittals

  • Address comments from clients and governing agencies

  • Translate sketches and ideas into planning documents

  • Organize and/or attend and lead project public engagement presentations and representation at public hearings.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Design, Urban/Regional Planning, or Civil Engineering

  • 1+ years of drafting and site planning experience utilizing AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, or other computer aided drafting software

  • 1+ years or course requirements in public speaking

  • Experience coordinating with municipalities and engineers throughout the land entitlement approval process

  • Software proficiency in ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and other basic computer programs

  • Ability to transfer notes, redlines or verbal explanations onto a drawing generated in AutoCAD

  • Excellent writing/editing, research, communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills

  • Experience in reading, understanding and interpreting municipal development codes to planning documents

  • Understanding of fundamental real estate and urban planning concepts

  • Understanding of engineering plans, maps, and records.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position works in a climate controlled, fast paced engineering office environment, with local travel required and reimbursed per company polices to local agencies, public hearings, client offices, and potentially job sites.

 

WORK HOURS:
Taney office hours are from Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This full-time non-exempt position will require a modified schedule where the employee will frequently need to work during off-hours to attend meetings or project representation that may run well into the late evenings. The employee is also expected to be accessible and responsive after hours via email, phone, or text messaging to address urgent company-related business as necessary.
