Burkeholder Middle School Replacement
Location: Henderson, Nevada
Client: KNIT Studios/CCSD
Completion: 2007
Taney Engineering is the civil engineer for the design of the replacement of Burkeholder Middle School for Clark County School District. The project involved replacing the 50-year-old existing middle school and campus with a new prototype building and facilities. The building is designed to LEED Gold Certification. The gym and courtyard were preserved from the existing facility. Due to the slope of the site, the elevations were terraced which presented site design challenges. Taney converted a large ditch at the front of the school into an underground storm drain facility to channel water around the buildings into the collection system. The underground system presented the opportunity for a landscaped frontage for the school.
